What is Venaseal and how does it work?
Venaseal is a closure system that utilizes a small catheter that is inserted into the vein site. A medical adhesive will be sent through the catheter that will close the vein and seal it. Before performing this procedure, the doctor will use a local anesthetic to numb the insertion site, usually in the groin area.
This treatment removes the possibility of the patient having nerve damage, which is a risk that is sometimes present when using thermal-based procedures. The procedure has proven to be effective and safe by clinical studies.
We will discuss the procedure with you and make sure we answer any questions. Our patients are our top priority, and we want to have you feel as comfortable as possible before, during, and after the procedure.
Will this procedure be painful?
Since you will receive a local anesthetic, the procedure should not be painful. The only pain you will probably experience is the stick of a needle when the doctor is numbing the area. During the procedure, you may feel mild pressure or pulling when the catheter is being inserted. Aside from that, you should not experience pain during the process.
After the procedure, a small bandage will be placed at the site of insertion. Patients will likely be able to resume their normal activities quickly following the procedure. You may experience minimal bruising.
Will Venaseal treat varicose vein pain?
Venaseal does treat symptomatic venous reflux disease. When the valves in the veins are no longer working correctly, the veins will allow blood to flow backward. This causes the veins to become enlarged, which makes them painful.
With Venaseal, these veins will be closed and sealed, not allowing blood to flow. The blood will flow to other, healthier veins. The result will be that these veins will no longer be painful. You will have a better quality of life and no longer have to suffer from pain.
